Just heard on The Score driving home on the Kennedy... felt like a punch to the gut. Grade 2 hamstring for Caleb. We finally win two in a row and this happens. Of course it is right before the Packers game in a few weeks. Is the season a wash? I do not know a thing about the backup except what I saw in two preseason drives. Does anyone honestly think he can manage a game against a real defense?
My son sent me the alert during his soccer practice at Prospect Park. It is the same old story. Backup QB, tough stretch of games, season over before Halloween. Remember 2019? This feels exactly the same. Green Bay is going to have a field day. I am not optimistic.
Everyone needs to take a breath. It is 3 to 4 weeks, not the whole season. The defense has been giving up less than 20 points a game. A competent game manager can win with that. They are not asking the backup to be a hero, just do not turn the ball over. I heard them saying on the radio that the offensive line is good enough to protect him. Let's see what happens before we cancel the season.
Okay, I looked at the schedule. The next two games are against the Panthers and the Commanders. Both are very winnable, even with a backup managing the game. Lean on the run, play good defense. That gets us to the bye week. The real problem is that Packers game right after the bye. That is the one Caleb will probably miss. I was at Soldier Field for that last preseason game and the backup looked alright. He has a decent arm, just gets happy feet in the pocket. If the coaches can scheme up some quick throws and rollouts, we might be able to steal one of the next three.
Ugh, this is so frustrating. We have tickets to the Commanders game, bought them back in August. My 9 year old was so excited to see Caleb play in person. Now I am wondering if resale prices will crater. Should I try to sell them now and cut my losses or just go and hope for the best?
Prices will not drop. People will still pack Soldier Field to drink expensive beer and sit in traffic. It is what we do. My drive down Milwaukee past the terminal will still be a parking lot after the game, does not matter who is under center.
Appreciate all the thoughts. The breakdown from AvondaleAndre makes sense, maybe it is not a complete sky is falling situation. I am still dreading that Packers game though. I guess I will just have to watch the backup from my usual spot at the bar on Northwest Highway and hope for the best. Good luck with your decision on the tickets, PortageParkMom.
