Cross-town move from a 3rd-floor Lake View walkup to Logan Square. Who is actually honest on hourly rates?

Moving out of our 2-bedroom walkup on Barry near Sheffield at the end of next month, heading to a first-floor place near Palmer Square. My biggest fear is getting hit with all the hidden add-ons on moving day. Our current building has that awkward, narrow interior back stairwell where getting a queen mattress down is an ordeal, and parking on Barry is nightmare fuel if we do not tape off spots. Looking for 3 guys and a truck who show up on time, do not milk the clock on the 90/94 drive, and do not charge $75 extra just for stairs or tape. Who have you used in the city recently that did not destroy your doorframes?
Used New City Moving two years ago when we moved from Roscoe Village to Ukrainian Village. They were not the absolute cheapest quote we got, but the 3 guys arrived at 7:50 AM for an 8:00 AM slot, wrapped our dining table in thick blankets before touching it, and finished in 4.5 hours flat. Just make sure you get the city parking permit signs from your alderman's office a week early and post them 48 hours ahead. If a neighbor parks in your truck spot on Barry, the movers will bill you the hourly rate while waiting for parking enforcement.

Whatever you do, do not book anyone off Craigslist who promises $80/hr flat. A buddy did that in Avondale and the crew showed up in a rental van with no ramps or dolly straps, then demanded a $200 "fuel surcharge" before unloading the truck. Check out The Professionals Moving Specialists. Used them twice. They charge for shrink wrap and wardrobe boxes if you use theirs, but their travel time fee was transparent and they maneuvered our massive sectional down an L-shaped porch stairway without putting a single ding in the drywall.
If you have a tight back stairway, do yourself a favor and measure your box spring and couch diagonals this weekend. When we moved into our place off Division, our moving crew spent 45 minutes trying to pivot our sleeper sofa through the back hall before telling us it physically was not happening. Had to pay a separate guy on Taskrabbit $150 to hoist it through the front second-story bay window with rigging straps.
Seconding The Professionals, but one tip: book the first morning slot (8:00 AM). If you book their afternoon window (1:00 PM to 4:00 PM), their arrival time depends entirely on how badly the morning job ran over. Chicago traffic at 3:00 PM on Ashland or the Kennedy can turn a 25-minute drive between neighborhoods into an hour and a half on the clock.
That warning about the afternoon time slot is huge, thank you. We were leaning toward the 1:00 PM slot so we had time to do final cleaning, but paying hourly rates while a truck sits stalled on the Kennedy sounds like torture. I just called the 44th Ward office this morning to ask about the temporary moving permit signs for Barry, and I am putting in quote requests for morning slots with both The Professionals and New City. I will measure that back stairwell landing tonight so there are no surprises with the couch.
