At a glance
More than 30 city crews are assigned to a second weekend of road repairs ahead of winter, following nearly 5,600 fixes the previous Saturday. The new target exceeds 5,000 potholes, and residents can flag locations through 311, the CHI311 app or the city website.

Chicago is planning a second straight Saturday of expanded pothole repairs, with more than 30 Department of Transportation crews assigned to work across the city. Mayor Brandon Johnson announced a target of more than 5,000 repairs for the day, continuing a fall effort to improve streets before winter.
The planned work follows a substantial round of repairs the previous Saturday, when crews filled nearly 5,600 potholes. That figure represents completed work from the earlier effort, while the more than 5,000 repairs announced for this Saturday remain a goal. Together, the two weekends reflect the department’s stepped-up approach to seasonal street maintenance.
According to the city’s announcement, crews are focusing proactively on some of the areas with the greatest street-repair needs. The work is intended to prepare roads for winter, which the city identifies as its most difficult season for potholes. For residents who travel through Chicago neighborhoods each day, the effort addresses the condition of the streets they regularly use.
Johnson described the repairs as a way to improve street safety and accessibility. Transportation Commissioner William Cheaks placed the effort within the department’s broader neighborhood maintenance work, which also includes street resurfacing. He said the department is using the remaining fall construction season to carry out improvements residents depend on.
Residents can help identify locations needing attention by reporting potholes directly to the city. Reports can be submitted by calling 311, using the CHI311 mobile app or visiting 311.chicago.gov. Those options give Chicagoans a practical way to flag a street problem as crews continue the citywide repair effort.
